Set goals that actually mean something.

Most OKR implementations fail not because the framework is wrong, but because the goals were never honest to begin with. Learn to set ambitious objectives, cascade them, and integrate them with Scrum, without sandbagging.

About the course

Agile OKRs is a Scrum Alliance microcredential course for leaders and managers who need to connect organisational strategy to delivery team execution.

In four hours, you move through the complete OKR lifecycle: understanding how OKRs differ from traditional goal-setting, cascading goals across departments, writing OKRs that are ambitious and measurable, aligning team-level goals to enterprise strategy, and integrating OKR cycles with Scrum sprints.

The entire session runs in Mural. There are no slides. Every framework is built collaboratively with the cohort using real scenarios.

What you’ll learn

This course changes how you set goals, not just what you call them.

• Explain how OKRs differ from SMART goals and why the distinction matters for alignment
• Cascade goals from enterprise strategy to departmental objectives
• Write OKRs that are genuinely ambitious, with measurable key results and clear ownership
• Align team-level OKRs to enterprise strategy using Transparency, Shared OKRs, and 360° Alignment
• Integrate OKR cycles with Scrum sprint planning and reviews without adding new meetings
• Identify at least two OKR antipatterns in your own organisation and explain why they undermine the framework

What's covered

4 hours. Four lessons. No slides, all Mural. Every concept is built with the cohort using real scenarios, not presented to them.

Lesson 1: Goal Setting Fundamentals (50 min)
• SMART goals versus OKRs, and why the distinction matters

Lesson 2: Strategic Planning and Alignment (65 min)
• Cascading goals from enterprise strategy to departmental objectives

Lesson 3: Objectives and Key Results (60 min)
• OKR writing workshop with peer feedback
• Alignment mechanisms: Transparency, Shared OKRs, 360° Alignment

Lesson 4: OKRs in Scrum and Antipatterns (65 min)
• Integrating OKRs with Scrum ceremonies, no added meetings
• Case study: The Story of Two Bonuses, and the Wells Fargo cross-selling scandal

What you need to bring

No prior OKR experience required.

• Helpful, not required: familiarity with how your organisation currently sets goals
• Virtual session: set up Zoom and Mural (instructions provided)
• Mural is the primary workspace. No account needed; a guest link is provided

Right for you if you are…

Designed primarily for leaders and managers:

• A senior leader responsible for strategy wanting it connected to delivery
• A mid-level manager who owns objectives and needs to cascade them
• A product leader who needs strategy to survive a Scrum sprint
• An agile coach implementing OKRs who needs the failure modes too

Not for Scrum Masters or individual contributors primarily. CSPO is the right start for product ownership work.
