About the course

The Quarterly Planning workshop is a structured, hands-on walk-through of how to prepare, run, and work with a quarterly plan, across one team or many.

You and your cohort move through the entire planning cycle together: from pre-planning preparation through to mid-quarter re-calibration. The session ends with a full planning simulation, a scenario that starts simply and gets complicated fast, just like the real thing.

This is not a lecture about quarterly planning. It is quarterly planning, compressed into 3.5 hours.

What you’ll learn

The workshop gives you the full quarterly planning cycle, not just the meeting agenda.

• Prepare a quarterly plan that leadership and delivery teams can both commit to
• Run a quarterly planning event for one team or across multiple interdependent teams
• Identify and surface dependencies before they become blockers
• Re-calibrate the plan mid-quarter when priorities shift or surprises arrive
• Communicate plan status in a format that works for delivery teams and senior stakeholders alike
• Facilitate the escalation conversations that quarterly planning always surfaces

What's covered

3.5 hours. The full planning cycle. One simulation that gets complicated fast. The session runs as a simulation, from preparation to mid-quarter re-calibration.

Part 1: Preparation
• What makes a plan useful versus one that sits in a deck
• Pre-planning inputs: capacity, committed work, strategic priorities

Part 2: Running the Plan
• The planning sequence: vision to objectives to team plans to dependencies
• Getting to a plan the room can commit to, not just agree to

Part 3: The Simulation
• Full quarterly planning simulation from start to finish
• Mid-quarter interruptions, escalations, and re-planning triggers

What you need to bring

No prior certification or framework experience required.

• Helpful, not required: familiarity with how your organisation currently runs quarterly or programme planning
• Virtual session: set up Zoom and Mural (instructions provided)

Right for you if you are…

• A Product Owner who needs to coordinate delivery across a quarter and keep stakeholders aligned
• A Scrum Master or Agile Coach facilitating a quarterly or programme planning event
• A leader or manager who sponsors quarterly planning events and wants them to actually work
• A delivery team member trying to understand how the quarterly plan connects to sprint work
• Anyone responsible for a programme of interdependent teams who needs dependencies to be visible

Most quarterly plans fail in week three, not week one. Nobody plans for that moment on purpose. This workshop is built entirely around it, so when your real plan hits its first real surprise, you already know exactly what to do, not just hope it works out.

Everything included

• IncrementOne Accredited certificate of completion
• Full quarterly planning simulation, the centrepiece of the session
• Quarterly Planning artefact set: planning board template, dependency map, re-planning decision guide
• Pre-session preparation guide to orient your thinking before the workshop
• Post-session summary with the frameworks and decision tools covered in class

AI for spotting plan drift early

Plans go stale quietly. AI can help you compare this week's status against the original plan and flag the gaps before they become a quarter-end surprise.

Quarterly Planning

Know what AI tracks, and what you decide

AI can summarize where the plan has drifted. It can't decide which trade-off to make when priorities shift. This workshop is explicit about that line, even in a course that's mostly about the human process of planning.
