The Kanban System Design (KSD) training is an introduction into the world of Kanban. In this class, we will cover simple concepts that are powerful in helping you organize, understand and manage your work. You will learn its principles and how to put them into practice by visualizing your work and maximizing flow. You will also learn how to address common issues faced by many teams and why workflow slows down or stops, and how to deal with overburden, bottlenecks and queues. The course also covers how Kanban fits in different contexts, such as product development and service delivery.

In this training, you will learn how to effectively design a Kanban system and implement evolutionary change within your organization. The basic concepts of flow, pull, and collaborative improvement will be introduced and explained in detail, allowing you to become faster and more responsive through improved risk management and governance.

You will be given practical insights on how to understand your systems of work and identify areas where Kanban implementation can be beneficial. Hands-on activities will be used to provide experience, allowing attendees to see firsthand that Kanban is much more than just "putting post-it's on a board."

The class includes a comprehensive simulation across both days in which teams work together to create a complete set of artifacts for a real-world digital product.

• Understand the basics, motivation, and benefits of The Kanban Method.
• Understand the key principles and practices of Kanban.
• Be able to visualize their process and identify issues and bottlenecks.
• Experience Kanban flow in a simulation of a Kanban system.
• Learn how to run the Kanban meetings to focus on the work and allow the team to organize around it.
• Build and design a Kanban system using the STATIK (Systems Thinking Approach to Implementing Kanban).
• Become faster and more responsive, with better risk management and governance.
• Understand “Pull” systems and how they help reduce overburdening.
• Learn how to utilize key metrics such as Lead Time, Run Charts, and Cumulative Flow Diagrams to make continuous improvements.
